Mission Statement - in brief

To assist non-Indigenous Australians to support Aboriginal rights and social justice projects by Paying the Rent.

Objectives – in full

1. To acknowledge past and present grave injustices inflicted on Indigenous peoples. We believe all non-Indigenous Australians continue to benefit from the invasion of Indigenous Australia and have an obligation to work toward redressing the wrongs of invasion and its effects.

2. To promote the collecting of voluntary rent from non-Indigenous people at a rate of 1% or more of gross income or an amount of choice into a Trust fund. The Pay the Rent Committee will facilitate funding grants and applications through this Trust fund, but only distribute with permission of the Bundjalung Elders Council.

3. To fund and support social change initiatives within Aboriginal communities which:

• foster fundamental change
• enhance self-determination and self-governance
• strengthen cultural knowledge, heritage and language
• focus on community empowerment and education
• break down racism
• build understanding of Aboriginal ways of being
